Yes. Almaden Valley is part of the City of San Jose, so any pool or spa holding more than 18 inches of water requires a building permit from the PBCE Building Division. Applications and inspection scheduling go through SJPermits.org, with electronic plan review in SJePlans. We take care of the whole process.
No, and it is a great story. The New Almaden mercury mines in the hills above the valley were California’s first mining operation, started in 1845, but Santa Clara County bought the mine lands in 1976 and preserved them as Almaden Quicksilver County Park. The mining district is parkland and a National Historic Landmark. Residential pool builds on the valley floor follow standard San Jose permitting.

San Jose Water Company serves most of Almaden Valley, with Valley Water managing the wholesale supply. Great Oaks Water Company serves the area east of Snell Road, so addresses on that side should confirm with the city’s online utility lookup tool.
Usually, yes. Almaden’s established suburban tracts have generous lots by Bay Area standards, and where space is tighter we design plunge pools, geometric lap pools, and pool-spa combos that fit without crowding the yard. The design phase starts with a site visit and real measurements, not guesses.
